One night can change everything…

The crew at Boston’s Brazen Head Pub hasn’t been very lucky in love. Can a mysterious visitor inspire them to look past old hurts and misconceptions and give romance a chance? One Lucky Night is a collection of five sexy interwoven novelettes by Aria Kane, Grace Teague, Ana Blaze, Constance Phillips, and Melinda Dozier.

Lucky Break by Aria Kane
Four years ago, chef Derek Chase walked out of Andrea Rivera’s life after a tragedy neither of them were prepared to deal with. When she’s called to the Brazen Head to repair a dishwasher, old sparks ignite buried feelings.

Lucky Star by Grace Teague
When her life is threatened by a mugger, Charlotte Price realizes she's in love with her best friend, Tommy Leung. The Brazen Head seems like the perfect neutral place to confess her feelings, but nothing goes according to plan.

A New Tune by Ana Blaze
When it comes to dating, Holly Hall has one unbreakable rule: no musicians. Not even gorgeous ones. Especially not gorgeous ones. Dating them only leads to heartbreak. So why did she let singer-songwriter Cian O’Neill kiss her? And why is she thinking about doing it again?

Lexi’s Chance by Constance Phillips
As a bartender, Sean Whelan meets all kinds of women every night, but none turn his head the way that Lexi has. She’s been playing cat and mouse with him for weeks. Tonight, Sean’s determined to get Lexi to quit teasing and take a real chance on him.

Drink or Dare by Melinda Dozier
A bachelorette party Drink or Dare game pairs paramedic students, Rachel Robertson and Killian Whelan, in a flirting match. Soon, the dares threaten to turn their academic rivalry into something much more.

I don't read many compilations.  Usually I find the stories too short, too scattered.  But one thing I do enjoy is when they are all intertwined together.  It's like getting multiple perspectives, and I just love that.  So when the opportunity came to read One Lucky Night, I was more than happy to hop on board.

Like most bloggers, when compilations come along, we don't review every story.  So I am going to stick with that tradition, and just post about my two favorites (although they were all good, and it was hard to pick!)

My first pick is Lucky Break, by Aria Kane.  Lucky Break is the story of Derek and Andy, well... Andrea.  Derek is a chef at The Brazen Head, an Irish bar that this whole compilation kind of centers around.  On this particularly snowy night he's the only chef, and is a bit short-staffed.  On top of that, the dishwasher is broken, and the handyman, Andy, is on his way to fix it.  Except Andy isn't a man.  She's Andrea.  And her and Derek know each other.

I really love stories like this!  You know, where something in the past ripped them apart, miscommunication is all over the place, and fate decides to throw them back together?  Yep - love it.  And in Derek and Andrea's case, I couldn't have been happier.  The care, the tension, the need, it was all evident between them.  I found both characters to be very likable, and I wanted them to get together by the end of their story.

Derek is a bit mischievous, and Andrea is all grown up now.  The way they play off each other really worked well for me.  I loved the little bits of reminiscing, and I loved the steamy and sensual kisses they stole in the dark.  Definitely a great way to start the book!

Next, I really enjoyed A New Tune, by Ana Blaze.  This is the story of Holly and Cian.  Holly is a waitress at The Brazen Head, and Cian is the musical entertainment.  This one surprised me, because "rock star romances" aren't really at the top of my list.  Ok, he's not technically a rock star, but he is a musician, and
he's got the reputation to go with it.  Or at least, that's what Holly thinks.  Holly's been burnt in the past by a musical man, and she's determined to not let it happen again.

But yep, fate is definitely stepping in.  These two end up alone together at his place on fairly innocent enough terms.  And the air is practically crackling between them.  I really loved how it started out one way, and ended up a whole other way, and that's due to both of them opening up and letting the other in.

These characters were also quite likable to me.  Holly and Cian felt like people I might know, and so I was able to connect with them.  They each had flaws, but the chemistry between them was undeniable. Their story is more of a friends-to-lovers, and that's always a welcome plotline!

After, still clinging to his shoulders and fighting to catch her breath, she'd tried to call foul.  "Friends don't kiss like that. " Her voice had trembled.

"No."  He'd grinned before rubbing his cheek against her.  "They don't Maybe something to think about while you keep me waiting."

Cian had followed up with another kiss: quick and possessive and every bit as shocking as the first.  Then he'd let go and walked away... whistling.

So all of the stories feature the pub and the snowstorm.  And there is something else they feature, that's a bit of secret.  But the addition of this... feature (to prevent a spoiler!) was really a great idea.  I loved the way all the stories tied in together and people from each story were featured throughout the book.  I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys romance!
