I don’t even know what category to put this book in; it would fit so well in several. Zombie, dystopia, new adult, romance… it’s got it all. The World Without A Future has raced onto my favorites list (which includes a five star rating) and has me clamoring for the next book (which I’ve heard there will be one, but that’s all I’m saying!)
Ren, which is short for Nurrin, turns twenty one during the course of this book. She’s what’s known as a First, the first babies born after the zombies came. You’d think it’d be a good thing, something to be celebrated to prove life goes on, but no – it’s bad. It’s a stigma that will follow her for the rest of her life, and could even cost her life if she’s not very careful. Aside from that, Ren is an awesome person. She’s pretty tough with a weapon; you have to be these days. She’s pretty tough in general. She’s smart and got a good head on her shoulders, along with being a smart ass – a trait I just love in any hero or heroine. She only has her and her brother, Collin, to count as family. She’s got her best friend slash quasi-boyfriend, Dustin, and that’s pretty much it. She lives in a miniscule apartment with Collin in Haven 8, and the day that the sirens go off signaling a breach, Collin’s friend Finn is right there to help them get out.
Finn… there is a lot to say about this man. I don’t know his exact age; I’m guessing he is roughly around thirty-thirty five. I could be way off on that. Finn is infuriating and incredibly sexy all at once. He’s like the MacGyver of survival, he will survive and at any cost. And so will Collin and Ren, if he has anything to say about it. The man is a bit of an asshole, a player with the women and secretive to the point of madness. But in a world where every day might be your last, he is definitely a man to have on your side.
People thought, before the change, that zombies moaned. They don't. A moan is the noise someone makes when they are dying, when they are broken. Zombies scream - because only a scream can convey the rage they feel, and the endless hunger.This book has zombies, but it’s not so much about them. They are there and they are very frightening, but so far, the story isn’t so much focused actually on them, but more on Finn and Ren. The zombies are fast and loud, and not mindless drones. The steps you have to go to, to be safe from them are exact. When Finn and Ren find themselves out on the road alone together, with only each other to watch their backs, things can get pretty intense. And oh yeah, that word “intense” can completely apply itself to anything involving this pair.
The story alternates point of view, separating the book in to parts. It really rounds out the view, and you get a peek into each mind. There is this white hot base level attraction between the two of them, but Ren views Finn as her brother’s evil friend basically. Finn plays off his attraction like it’s a game to him. They come so close to crashing into each other and causing a reaction; Nazarea Andrews does such a good job teasing you with it all. As for me, I was practically panting each time Finn and Ren got close, each time the situation got a bit heated – and trust me, it does.
He moves faster than I expect, his body pushing against mine, holding me captive against the door, his lips hard on mine. I gasp and, with a groan, he sweeps into my mouth, sucking softly on my tongue. Something deep inside me clenches, a hungry yearning.
I whimper, and he shifts, all of his weight bracing me, and the press of him against my belly, hard and impatient, make me squirm anxiously.
His mouth leaves mine, trailing kisses on my neck. When he bites down on my earlobe, I almost faint.
I make a noise, and he groans, the noise vibrating against my skin. He pulls back and stares at me with hot, hungry eyes.
"Does that answer any of your questions?"
By the time the book ended I was ecstatic with having read what turned out to be an awesome amalgamation of all my favorite things, and crazified that I didn’t have more to read. I flew through these pages. Nazarea Andrews paints a picture so clearly, so brilliantly… she made me feel like I was there. I caught myself holding my breath several times, waiting for this or that to happen. And when the book was finished, I tried to go to bed, only to wake up several times through the night thinking about these two characters and what might happen next. Like seriously, I woke up and thought “Oh my god, what is Finn going to do about this?” and a few other thoughts I can’t tell you, since they would surely spoil it for you. All I can say is that I recommend this book; it will appeal to many different types of readers. I’m thoroughly impressed by it and I’m anxiously waiting for more. These characters and their situation are sticking in my brain, and I don’t think they will be making their exit any time soon.
