Hunger Embraced
Jennifer James
She’s fed up with being fed on.
All Miranda Thibodeaux really wants to do is survive corporate hell and be left alone. But as the daughter of the Incubi king, being left alone isn’t on her schedule. And as an avatar to a goddess with multiple personality issues, taking things in stride isn’t either.
Daniel looks like an ordinary surfer boy—T. T. B.--Tall, Tanned, and Blond. Hot he may be, but ordinary he’s not. Beneath the pretty packaging lies a ruthless warrior, a servant to the Vampire Council. His mission is to find Miranda and present her to the council, then get the hell out of Dodge before he loses his focus. The last thing he needs is the distraction of the testy female.
When circumstances force Miranda to turn to T.T.B. for help, they both end up with more than they bargained for. And that normal human life she wanted? Not really doable when everyone wants a piece of her...
***Interview***
Hey Jennifer! What’s
up?
Plot Bunnies! They’ve taken over my
life lately! I’m plotting two super seekrit projects: One with my critique
group that will center around a shared world with sexy night clubs and some
really fun supernatural creatures.
The other project is one that I
plotted via text with my editor Rachel Firasek.
I can’t tell you anything about it though. What I can tell you is that
it’s totally different than anything I’ve written so far… and I’m really stoked
about it. Well, maybe not totally different. It’ll have my signature smokin’
hot sex scenes, a fun, spunky heroine,
and the awesome hero who didn’t know how empty his life was until his lady came
along and wrecked up his well ordered world.
*grin*
So you’ve visited Fictional Candy a couple times promoting
different books. Today we’re here to
talk about Hunger Embraced. What’s the
scoop on this story?!
Hmmm….vampires, demons, a Celtic
goddess with multiple personalities, shapeshifters, and candy. Lots of candy. I
set the book here in my home town (well, near to my home town...like, twenty
minutes away) because I when I walk down some of these streets, I’m convinced I
see all sorts of supernaturals. So having a story set around here was so fun
for me!
This book is actually the first full
length novel I wrote. I’ve had three other pieces released before it, but I
have to admit that Hunger Embraced is my favorite. I’m a huge Urban Fantasy and Paranormal
Romance fan, so writing a series of my own in that genre makes me a happy
author.
Mmmmm, Incubi , Succubi and Vampires. Sounds like a recipe for some hot
action. How hot does it get in Hunger Embraced?
*Ahem* Well, the heat starts in
chapter one…and doesn’t let up. LOL. When your heroine is a succubus, you gotta
feed her. So, there’s some ménage scenes, and a dubious consent scene, and a
really great bath tub scene with a bunch of mirrors….
And I refuse to take all the
responsibility for my dirty mind. Some of it is Rachel’s fault…she leaves me
these notes in the margins when we edit, and then I can’t help the things my
muse does.
This book is quite a bit longer than your other books. How was that?
Did the story burst forth from your fingers, or was it difficult?
This book spilled out in a rush. It
was written in a month or two. Then it went through several rounds of rewrites
and edits. And I love the world. I love creating new creatures and rules to
play around with. Miranda, the heroine, literally “talks” in my head all the
time. I hear her at least once a day…which is weird. But when I’m writing one
of her books, she’s got lots to say.
The other books were written as a
“break” from my Hunger series. One of the best things to do as a writer is to
let the story rest and come back to it later.
This story also gets into the paranormal aspects, which your
other stories have not. Was that super
fun?
Yes! Like I said before, I
lovelovelove all things paranormal. Movies, books, comics…I enjoy the heck out
of imagined worlds and all the exploration you can do in them. There’s
nothing more relaxing to me than letting
my mind wander and coming up with weird stuff.
I enjoy contemporaries too….and I
actually have some stories that are in my ideas folder for later when I want a
project to work on. But with a paranormal I get to do so much more creation and
follow more plot bunnies.
So Jennifer,
what do you do when you are not writing?
Give us the deets! (and yes, I really did just say deets)
I go to school (I’m actually about
to enter my final semester!) I watch my kids…ride my bike…walk on the treadmill
and think about writing and my books….I love to read…search the Internet and
Netflix for zombie movies I haven’t seen…sew…knit here and there, but it’s
usually a hot mess…
If you had to
be attacked (in any manner) by a Vampire or an Incubus, which would it be (and
why)?
Hmmm…well in my Hunger series there
are four basic types of vampires…and they can interbreed. So, I could
technically get attacked by an Empathic vampire (Feeds on emotions) who can
also feed on sex….Nomnomnom… *grin*
I think I’m going to say that I pick
Gregory from Hunger Embraced. He’s Daniel’s (the hero) best friend, and I kinda
have a crush on him. There. I said it. He lives in my head and it’s weird. But
there it is. Anyway, Gregory is fun. Flirty, handsome, sweet, and Scottish. He
also makes really great homemade bread.
So, Gregory can attack me
anytime.
However he wants.
Are there any
works in progress you can share with us?
Hunger Unbound, book two in the
series is in edits right now. Not big edits with the editor, I’m polishing it
up to send to her for submission.
Covert Craving is a paranormal
novella that I “finished” a few months ago…and then decided I wanted to expand
into something longer. So I’ll be revisiting that soon.
And there are my super seekrit
projects I mentiones above.
If you could
only read OR write, which would you choose?
Write. Because when I don’t write, I
turn into an evil beast.
And if you
could have a Pegasus or a Unicorn, which of those would you pick?
Unicorn. They can purify water with
their horn and there is a terrible lack of clean drinking water in the world.
Of course I’d have to hide my unicorn so no one stole it, but I think giving
people clean water would make it worth it.
Live forever
or be a millionaire now?
Gah! Uh…well, if I lived forever I’d
get lonely. I mean, if I was the only one, it’d be so depressing. Like being
Dr. Who. So, I’ll take the moohlah.
Cleveland
or…. Toledo! (Ok, Toledo is the first other OH city that came to mind)
Cleveland all the way baby. I’ve
only been to Toledo a few times, and it wasn’t really pleasant. Of course, that
may have been just the area I was in. But I love Cleveland. We have loads of
cool stuff around here.
And I think
that about sums it up. It was fun
getting to know you a bit more! Thanks for coming by!
Thanks for having me and letting me
ramble.
