Time has been all but kind to Azaleigh over the past year, but with this time, change has filled a void caused by broken dreams. Fear harbors inside Azaleigh's mind as she tries to run from torn emotions. Things are not what they seem. A web of deceit clings to the secret Az has been waiting to uncover -- Anna. As the surreptitious story is revealed, horror of the ones behind it is mind-blowing. Will the mystery be brought to light or will it remain hidden from the fire within?

Hey everyone!!  Today I have an excerpt from Flesh and Flames, so I hope you enjoy it!  Also, April and Danielle are offering a giveaway to one lucky commenter (so commenting is mandatory!)  Thanks for stopping by!

Gage made his way to Charlie's, a small bar located in the center of downtown LA. The bar was not at all like the other bars or clubs in this area. It was more like a hole in the wall that only the worst tortured soul would care to visit.
As he pulled the door open, the smoke that filled the room poured out. Gage looked around and saw only a handful of people, most of which were crowded around the single pool table that sat in the center of the floor.
A man sat at the bar with his back turned, drinking shots of dark liquor. As Gage approached him, the man took another shot and then slammed the glass down on the counter. A smile hinted on Gage's face as he pulled up a seat next to him.
"Another for me and my friend here," Gage shouted to the bartender.
The bartender was around twenty-six with an all-out gothic look and more piercings on her face than a person could count. "Your friend is at his limit," she snapped.
"Come now. Just one more?" Gage grinned and then gave her a wink. No woman could tell him no. She rolled her eyes in submission and began to pour the shots.
"I'm not your friend," Kale said as he cut his eyes at Gage.
"Now that's just rude, Kale," Gage said in a playful tone. Kale turned to look at him straight on. The seriousness in his face didn't bother Gage.
"You called this meeting. What is it that you want?" Kale was clearly frustrated.
"I see. No friendly greeting. Straight to business," Gage said mockingly and then continued with less sarcasm. "Someone tried to kill Jocelyn the other night. They were looking for the dagger and thought she knew where it was. I kept her at my place and went to see what I could find out, but I came up empty. I called you here because it won't be long until they come looking for you since you were the last person with it. It seems the dagger was never returned to Pasqual if it's being sought out."
"What's your point?" Kale said as he lifted the shot glass to his lips.
"Are you kidding me? Pasqual will have everyone's head for this." Gage looked at Kale confusedly. He was no longer the man Gage considered a friend. Even in their times of trial, they had still had an unspoken respect for one another. But the man who now sat in front of him had no resemblance to the person he had once known.
"Pasqual is the least of your worries. And he's not calling the shots anymore. I am," Kale said.
Gage looked over to the bartender and raised his hand. "How many shots did you say he's had?"
"Too many," she said with irritation in her voice.
"I've hidden it," Kale said. "And I'm not drunk."
"What were you thinking?" Gage asked.
"I followed code. That's all you need to know," Kale replied.
"What code? There is no code." Gage looked at him, confused.
This time, Kale raised his hand to the bartender. "Another round. It's on him." Kale pointed at Gage. The woman returned his request with a middle finger.
"Tell me you didn't go vigilante on this?" Gage asked.
"No. I follow code. Unlike you," Kale growled.
Gage could see the seriousness in Kale's face and knew no matter how much he pried, he would not get the answers.
"Always a pleasure, old friend." Gage smiled and tossed money on the counter.
"Wait," Kale said. He paused, looking for words that he seemed to want to hold hostage.
"How is she?" His eyes were filled with turmoil. It took a lot of courage for him to ask.
"She's learning how to live again." But as Gage stared at Kale, a familiar feeling came over him. Looking at him, Gage knew what was different. "You did it, didn't you?"

Kale turned away, refusing to acknowledge the question. There was a long bout of silence. Gage decided not to pursue the question, knowing that it would not benefit him to know. He turned, leaving Kale to drown in his own misery.

Danielle was born and raised in Virginia, and even though she loves it there, she has always pictured herself as a city girl. Danielle grew up having a huge appetite for daydreaming, always wanting to live in the spectacular worlds she created in her mind. As a child, she would spend hours curled up in bed with her favorite book, which she would read over and over again. She feels nothing is more inspiring than the written word. Danielle currently still lives in Virginia with her husband and rebellious dog, "Ceazer."

April grew up in a small town in Virginia, where it was common practice believing that dreams could only be found in stories. At the age of seven she was diagnosed with dyslexia. April was told that she would struggle through life and would never pick up a book to read for pleasure. Although school was hard, she was able to find her way with the help of two teachers who taught me self-discovery. Ignoring what she was taught growing up, April turned it around and found that your dreams could become stories.

Review & Giveaway: For Real by Chelsea Cameron

Title: For Real
Series: Rules of Love, #1
Author: Chelsea Cameron
Published: November 20, Createspace
Format: Ebook received for review

Two people. One fake relationship. What could go wrong? When virgin Shannon Travers gets fed up with her friends demanding that she find a boyfriend, she enlists the help of tattooed, mohawk-rocking graphic design student Jett. He's more than happy to play along with their Fake Relationship, including the Ten Rules of Fake Dating that control-freak Shannon comes up with. Even if he likes to violate them. Repeatedly. But what happens when Fake Dating starts to feel... not fake anymore? Will Shannon be willing to let go and embrace the first thing in her life that's ever felt REAL?

Shannon Travers is a junior in college; a young woman with corporate dreams and living the good life. Also, Shannon is a…. VIRGIN!! *Collective Gasp* While still holding your V Card isn’t a bad thing, Shannon’s friends seem to think she needs to just get on with it already, and their good intentions kind of take on a jerk reaction, and that leads Shannon right into Jett’s arms.

While Shannon is a bit of a bookworm that is sometimes a bit clumsy, she is a thoughtful and caring friend. I really liked her throughout this story, and I felt she was a relatable character. She has a wonderful smart ass inner monologue, to match a drifting though process, and the both of them together had me giggling to see what she was really thinking.

Jett… whew. He’s a wonderful guy. Jett is an Asian hottie, sporting massive dragon tattoos and a mohawk. I’m not sure why, but I think this might be the first romance I’ve read with an Asian male in the lead, and I loved it! It was definitely a treat to change up my view a bit, and Jett was definitely the perfect candidate for that. He is quiet and thoughtful, but at the same time he is extremely playful and caring. He has a protective side, especially when it comes to Shannon. He has an affinity for making origami cranes, is a wiz at graphic design and has a large heart - Yep, I definitely put Jett Nguyen on my “Super Hot” List (that I just made up…)

“And your hip?” he says, his voice low.

Is it possible to die from anticipation? Because I think I just did. Jett crouches down and I swear I’m going to have a seizure if he does what I think he’s going to do.

And then he very carefully places the lightest of kisses on my hipbone and OH MY GOD I SWEAR I CAN FEEL HIS LIPS THROUGH MY JEANS AND I’M GOING TO DIE NOW.

He looks up at me from his crouched position and his face is oh so serious.

“All better,” he says and his voice hitches a little and I realize that if I just turned my body, he would be face-to-face with my downstairs. Well, not like my downstairs has a face. It does have lips though…

Fake relationships in romances are awesome!! They always lead to real romances, but it’s the fun of getting there that really brings it home for most of us romance fanatics. In For Real, the fake relationship came with ground rules. It also came with two people who were obviously perfect for each other, and they had terrific chemistry. When it came time to start discussing how to end the fake relationship, I was tempted to just stop reading. I had this perfect vision of Jett and Shannon in my mind, and I didn’t want to mar it with something negative. However, the end result is something wonderful, so if you feel like quitting – don’t. (wink!)

The whole of this book wasn’t very dramatic, and not really sexual at all. For me, it is definitely on the younger side of NA. However, it was so much fun and really just enjoyable read, I found myself not caring about the lack of sex. There is a special treat in the form of Jett’s roommate, Javier. Javier isn’t really about first impressions in this book, but once you get to know him, you discover he really just has a wealth of love for Jett, and immediately that raised him, like, ten notches on my “Awesome Character” List (which I also just made up…)

Chelsea Cameron’s writing is really great, with an easy and light feel to it. I didn’t want to put this book down, and I will definitely be looking into reading other books of hers. I found For Real to be the perfect weekend read, and if you are looking for something to read I would definitely recommend it!

Today I chose to quote a book I also have up for review, so you can reach that review by clicking the book cover - cool? For Real was just such a fun read, it had so many quotable parts, I just had to share it with you.  You can even see more quotes on my review!

Jett shifts again, and his shoulder brushes mine and he moves a fraction closer to me as I try not to freak out. It’s only an inch closer and our shoulders have barely brushed. Nothing to make a big deal out of. I’ve touched boy’s shoulders before. I’ve had plenty of shoulder-touching experience. I’m not a shoulder virgin.

But wait, I have another!!!
Goodreads - Amazon - BN

Jett licked my face. I never thought someone licking my face would be anything but nasty, but Jett turned everything sexy. Like he was a wizard and could transform anything and sexify it. Wizard of Sexy. With his magic… wand. Thinking about Jett’s magic wand causes me to start giggling and I turn the water on in the sink just so he won’t hear me.

I think I’m losing it.

Review: Layers by Sigal Ehrlich

Title: Layers
Series: Stark #1
Author: Sigal Ehrlich
Published: October 2013
Format: Ebook received for review

According to Hayley love is a subject of ridicule, a myth created by hopeless romantics.

When Hayley makes a resolution to declare her loose lifestyle era R.I.P, it’s all good in theory…

That is until she meets Daniel Stark, a well-respected, mid-thirties business man who is known for his short temper, lack of steady relationships as well as his strict preserve of his private life.

Opinionated, sharp tongued Hayley accidently steps into his office leaving Daniel resolved to put Hayley in her place and have her in his bed.

Both Hayley and Daniel can’t avoid the immediate instigation of the attraction between them.

In a unanimously agreed upon verdict by Hayley and her two best friends, Ian the gay self-absorb, aspiring model and Natasha the witty, borderline neurotic soul mate, Daniel Stark is to be Hayley’s pure physical attraction, emotions aside era closure.

Will it indeed be a closure, or a beginning to something neither Hayley nor Daniel ever bargained for…

This week I read Layers by Sigal Ehrlich. Layers really threw me for a great big loop, and by the end, I was so into this book and these characters, I hated to see the book end! Luckily, the next one, Inner Core, comes out in January, so I don’t have too long to wait.

Let’s start with Hayley. This book is told from her POV, and it’s a doozy. She’s pretty young, around twenty three or twenty four. She’s a bit funky and a lot of fun; she isn’t out to impress anyone. Hayley, or Hales as her friends call her, knows who she is – and I loved that about her. She’s a straight shooter; she tells it like it is. I really found that as the story went on I felt like I was able to know her better, more deeply. We see her fears and hopes, and it really helped endear her to me. When she and Daniel spend more time together, I really love her ability to sort of “tame the beast” in him, make him see the light, the logic and proceed with an even temperament.

And then one day, Hayley meets Daniel Stark. The Daniel Stark. Daniel is a young entrepreneur in his thirties who is a self-made millionaire. He’s known for his hot temper, but he’s also known for his keen business sense and being a bit of a permanent bachelor. He’s a lot like Hayley, burnt by relationships in the past and would rather just have casual relationships without much depth. I absolutely loved Daniel. I found him to be witty and fun, protective and caring. He took some really gigantic leaps as far as his heart, and his leaps made me melt.

“No, Chris,” Daniel says in a clipped tone. I shift to look his way; his back is to the room as he stares out the window. He turns to face me slowly, his stare fixated on mine as he leans on the window frame. “Which part of no did you not understand?” he asks, annoyed. It amuses me. Could he be any less impatient?

He listens, looking exasperated, and then replies, “I am not letting anyone fuck me at their own will and appointed time.” Saying that, he points his index finger at me and mouths, “You,” then bobs his head in approval, mouthing “can.” A wicked smirk appears on his handsome face.

This book was chock full of smart ass, which along with tons o’ sex and hot Alpha males, is one of my favorite components in any book. Layers definitely had my holy trinity of a great book. In fact, not only Daniel, but I found all of the characters to be witty with flair. When you add in Hayley’s friends, Tasha and Ian, you really have some great relationships to build on. Those two often provided comic relief, but they were also there with a shoulder to cry on and a hug to comfort.

For a large portion of the book things are going really great, until they’re not. But through it all, I felt the angst I was thriving on was always right there at the surface. Hayley and Daniel have this connection that at times felt a bit codependent, but always felt real. I felt they gave each other the breath to breathe. I have no doubt in my mind of their feelings for each other, they run deep and true. When things were good between them, they were great. It was all red hot flames and enough sexual tension and chemistry to power a good sized city. When things got bad, my heart broke for each of them. I felt their anguish and found myself hoping things would work out for them.

In slow, sliding movements he makes me burn inside and out. I grab his face with unadulterated desire and consume his mouth. As I do, he returns my gesture, thrusting slowly yet forcefully. I moan, my body heated with electrifying sensations. I wrap my legs tighter and in response his movements become more intense. As they do, I feel myself explode into thousands of pieces of ecstasy; shortly afterwards, I hear him pant loudly as he joins me.

This book kept me up late. I read every spare minute I could until I was finished, even if it was only for five minutes at a time. The characters are all so enigmatic; I didn’t want to let them go! If you are looking for a contemporary romance that feels a bit different and is playful and heated at the same time, I definitely suggest Layers - it's a five star read for me!

Ok, so on December 20 I will be posting an interview that I did with author Sigal Ehrlich, so be sure to check back for that.  But then She has a cover reveal (not here, but elsewhere!) for Inner Core, the second book, on January 11.  Sometime after that, in January, Inner Core should be released.  I am definitely anxious to find out what happens next!!
