Fascinated by the dark fantasies in the journals she’s discovered, and the two men who have now found a place in her life, Sara McMillan finds herself torn between her new life and her past. Now, more than ever, Sara identifies with the lost journal writer, Rebecca, and is certain that something sinister has happened.
In the arms of the sexy, tormented artist Chris Merit, Sara seeks answers about Rebecca and ends up discovering things about herself she never knew existed. Chris forces Sara to reconsider who she is and what she truly wants from life, but not before his dark desires threaten to tear them apart. Her boss, Mark Compton, offers her the shelter to understand just what those needs mean to her, and what they might have meant to Rebecca, but can she trust him to lead her to a final conclusion to Rebecca’s story?
Wow. Where If I Were You focused more on Rebecca and her life, Being Me focuses on Sara and hers. And her life has really just went up a few notches in both the “exciting” and “interesting” factors. It also spends more time looking at this blossoming relationship between Chris and Sara – and you know I am happy about that!!
When this book started, their relationship filled me with envy. Well, envy and lust. I can only hope that Lisa Renee Jones doesn’t turn Chris into an evil version of himself. Because right now? He is perfection. Beautiful, sexy, dangerous, mind numbing perfection. Sure, there are some deep secrets and aspects of his life live on the dark side. His flaws add to his attraction? What flaw? There are times when Chris sounds so entirely committed to Sara. It melts me. But there is something just out of reach. I can’t put my finger on it just yet. But one thing is for sure – there are many many layers to Chris Merit.
You do more than help. You’re the reason I take my next breath.-Chris to Sara
As for the mystery of “Where is Rebecca?” that certainly is a twisted road. I’m finding myself excited every time Sara goes to the storage unit to see what she will find next. And each new contact she meets through Allure seems to be another missing piece to the puzzle.
Lisa Renee Jones continued to create this intoxicating world around Sara McMillan. I feel as I am there with her at the art gallery, the winery, Chris’s apartment… wherever Sara is. I forget my own time and space, and I’m instantly transported into this world.
I whimper, impossibly aroused, and my hands slip beneath the thick leather of his jacket, wrapping his waist. His hand caresses up my back, molding me tighter to him, branding me with heat and fire and sizzling passion that threaten to steal all of the reason I possess. No man has ever made me forget where I am, forget why I should care.
“That, “ he says roughly, when he pulls back again, “was for the past twelve hours that I should have been thinking about business. Instead, I was incessantly thinking about pink paddles, butterfly nipple clams, and all the places I’m going to lick, kiss, and now, you can bet, punish you when we get home.”
I almost moan from his words and have no idea how I manage enough coherent thought to issue a warning, but somehow I do. “If you think sex is going to make this argument go away, you’re wrong.”
“You couldn’t be more right, but it’s a good place to start and end the enlightening conversation you can bet your sweet little ass we’re going to have.” He sets me back from him and away from the door enough to open it. “Let’s go home where I can fuck what you’ve made me feel out of my system and you can do the same.”
…. Yeah. This book is hot. There are scenes in it that will have you gasping for air. But it’s not just about the sex. Their relationship really grows in this book, and you get a deeper look into both of their histories. But nonetheless, when they meet up sexually, the chemistry is off the charts.
The other characters are very compelling, too. We get a bit of a closer look at Mark. And there is the new friend she is making in Ava, the coffee shop owner. And don’t forget the mystery of Ella. The duplicity everyone brings to the table is amazing, and it’s quite a puzzle for the reader. There are some new characters introduced into this book that I don't care for - I'm sure they have a hidden agenda. But I will let you decide that for yourself!
I can’t wait for book three to see what could possibly happen next!
